The Pakistani fashion industry is a hot and happening place. One of the biggest events in this industry, the PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week 2017 was held in Lahore in the month of March.
Sunsilk, along with special sponsorship from Bank Al Falah Rising Talent, launched the latest designs of top renowned as well as some budding fashion designers in the industry.
For the longest time, the Pakistani Fashion Industry has been producing and giving the best to their customers. In fact, the Top Pakistani Fashion Designers have deep-rooted respect in the entire local and international fashion community. This year, like always, a lot of new and budding talent was showcased at the 9th Pakistan Sunsilk Fashion Week.
The fashion industry needed this event to introduce new variety and to boost the local talent. New designer labels exhibited their collections along with famous designer brands like Amir Adnan, Sana Maskatiya, HSY, Cynosure, Shamael Ansari, Generation and Sana Safinaz. Separate catwalks were arranged for the new rising talent to showcase their collections. To keep the audience engaged and interested in the show, the newer labels displayed themselves paired with the famous brands. The new budding designers took the advantage of the opportunity and gathered a large number of audience to witness their shows.
On the other hand, another lift that was given to the upcoming talent was through the Bank Al Falah Rising Talent Segment at the PSFW 2017. It was a really healthy step that was taken to promote the local fashion industry and give them enough exposure for future ventures. This was the fourth time that the Rising Talent segment became a part of the Pakistan Sunsilk Fashion Week.
Although the designs that were presented by the young designers were actually picked up directly from their projects at fashion school, the dresses did not seem appropriate for everyday wear or even for any sort of occasions. Around twenty-two students had been selected from the Pakistan Institute of Fashion Design (PIFD) who were then shortlisted for the final round.
All in all, there were four new designers who participated for the Bank Al Falah Rising Talent Award. Each contestant was allowed to showcase four of their designs which were mostly a part of the thesis from PIFD. The contestants included Ghulam Dastagir, Saiqa Rahim, Unza Khalid and Hira Ali.
The award was won by Ghulam Dastagir for his Bavaria Collection that was set in mostly different shades of white. He bagged the award to his name through a voting done by the general public and fashion journalists. The award was a whopping 5 lac Pakistani Rupees.
The contestants were shortlisted in August 2016 and since then had been working on the designs for this grand event. All the participants were personally mentored by Maria B. and Kamiar Rokni.
This step taken by PSFW is surely something that would take the Pakistani Fashion Industry to higher limits in terms of growth. The supporting hand for marketing is wonderfully done by Bank Alfalah and Sunsilk Pakistan. The existing potential and upcoming generation is surely an asset to bring in new and innovative ideas to the industry.
All these young designers need is the right direction to be ushered in and they will set out to prove themselves with the best they have.
